Islam is one of the world's major religions, followed by more than two billion people across the globe. The word "Islam" comes from the Arabic root Salam, which means peace, and it also means submission to the will of Allah (God). A person who follows Islam is called a Muslim, meaning one who submits to Allah with faith, sincerity, and obedience.
Islam teaches that there is only one God, known as Allah, who is the Creator of the heavens, the earth, and everything within them. Muslims believe that Allah sent many prophets throughout history to guide humanity, including Prophet Adam (AS), Prophet Noah (AS), Prophet Abraham (AS), Prophet Moses (AS), Prophet Jesus (AS), and finally Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), who was sent as the last messenger for all mankind.
The Holy Quran is the sacred book of Islam and is believed to be the literal word of Allah, revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through the Angel Jibreel (Gabriel). It serves as a complete guide for life, offering teachings on faith, worship, morality, family, justice, compassion, and human relationships. Millions of Muslims around the world recite, memorize, and study the Quran every day as a source of guidance and spiritual strength.
The foundation of Islamic practice is built upon the Five Pillars of Islam, which every Muslim strives to uphold:
Shahadah (Faith): Declaring that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad (PBUH) is His Messenger.
Salah (Prayer): Performing five daily prayers to maintain a strong connection with Allah.
Zakat (Charity): Giving a portion of one's wealth to those in need to promote social justice and compassion.
Sawm (Fasting): Fasting during the month of Ramadan to develop self-discipline, gratitude, and spiritual awareness.
Hajj (Pilgrimage): Performing the pilgrimage to Makkah at least once in a lifetime for those who are physically and financially able.
These pillars shape a Muslim's daily life and strengthen faith, character, and responsibility.
Islam teaches belief in:
One Almighty God (Allah)
His Angels
His Divine Books
His Prophets and Messengers
The Day of Judgment
Divine Decree (Qadr)
These beliefs encourage Muslims to live with honesty, kindness, patience, humility, and accountability.
Muslims believe that Islam provides a complete way of life that brings peace, purpose, and guidance. It teaches respect for parents, kindness to neighbors, honesty in business, care for the poor, forgiveness, justice, and compassion toward all people.
Islam encourages seeking knowledge, maintaining good character, protecting the environment, helping those in need, and contributing positively to society. These timeless values make Islam relevant for every generation.
